Don't Tell Anybody! 10 Secret Spots to Study on Campus

staff-lounge.jpeg

Even though the CCNY administration recently moved all the high school students out the cafeteria to the ballroom during lunch hours that has still not reduced overcrowding.  Many students complain that their favorite places to lounge are too full. "Man the Hoffman (Lounge) is too crowded!" says engineering student Troy Duncan. "The Cafeteria has too many people to study."Whether you are looking for a place to study quietly or socialize, here is a list of little-known places to lounge on campusby Bernie Dalberice10. Writing Center (NAC Plaza 3rd Fl) M-F (Hours of Operation Varies) A hidden academic gem, The Writing Center has 26 MACs and another computer lab that hosts a number of workshops. The best thing about the center is students can schedule appointments with tutors to help them correct their papers. Bring only one guest because noise is kept to a minimum. 9. U.S.G Office (NAC 1/111) M-F 11am- 5pm Students come to the Undergraduate Student Government office to know what is going on campus. With several computer stations, a couch and a 20-page per student printing limit many come to finish their assignments.  Space is limited, so you can bring up to three. 8. MCA Lounge (Shepard Hall 4th Floor)While dozens of communication majors are waiting for advising, they converse under the shine from the glass ceiling. The couches and tables, make the MCA lounge a great place to sit down and have coffee with friends. 7.  Conference Room (NAC 1/211 & 1/212) (Reservation only)

This is a great place to for clubs and organizations to have meetings. One Conference room can hold up to 60 people!  Contact Student Life to reserve the conference rooms. Only clubs can make reservations. 6.  Empty ClassroomsWhen classes are done the doors are usually left open. Classrooms are great places to have a large number of friends congregate away from the public. Remember classes with equipment are usually locked after they end. 5.  Aronow Theater (NAC 1/214) 6:15pm - 10pmAronow holds lectures and concerts for over 300 people! Many CCNY dance teams practice in the open space at night. Artists practice on the stage and study groups meet within the pews. 4. Staff Lounge (NAC Building 1st floor) M-F 8am-10pmThis small room is where CCNY staff comes to eat during their breaks.  During the evenings the lounge is open and students spend free time on the comfy couches.  Many musicians come to jam it out on their instruments! Students are not supposed to be there, so shhhhh!!! 3. Lewis Stadium Remains (NAC Plaza 2nd Floor) SeasonalMany do not know that there used to be a large outdoor stadium where the NAC currently stands! This area is rarely used by anyone. You can hang out with a large assembly of people. 2. NAC Roof (6th & 8th Floors) M-F 9am-4pmThe Roof is more like an extended balcony with the view of the Hudson River and Hamilton Heights. It's a place to unwind with friends. 1. Tennis Courts (Marshak Building) SeasonalWith about a dozen patio tables, this open space is perfect for studying or having lunch on a nice day. If students knew about the tennis courts many would prefer to eat there instead of the Quad. Go there and exhale the stress of the semester. Images by: Kino Galbraith
