A diaryBy Tahira Rhame.Commuting to City College from Queens via mass transit can be an interesting wild adventure. Not a day that goes by that you don’t see something unusual happen. Here’s my weeklong diary of the bizarre, crazy incidents I witnessed on the train.MONDAYBoys Gone WildWhile waiting for the D train on 7th Avenue I observed two boys who looked like they were supposed to be on their way to school. They were standing on the platform making fun of some adults. They were talking about how people were dressed and throwing paper at people waiting for the train. Their behavior turned from bad to worse when they began running up to every train that stopped and pressing their faces against the windows. People had different reactions; some were scared, some were annoyed and one lady gave them the middle finger. I felt disappointed and ashamed for the boys. They thought they were being cool but, really, they were just embarrassing themselves. TUESDAY Never too Homeless for a BrewA homeless man on the E train, who was extremely dirty and had all his belongings in black garbage bag, was asking all the commuters for money to eat. After going around the train and gathering money, he sat down, reached into his garbage bag and pulled out a 40 oz Coors beer. Everyone in the train car began shaking their heads in disappointment and disbelief. I immediately thought to myself, “I’m happy I did not give him anything.” WEDNESDAYGet a Room! Two teenagers were making out, leaning on the train door. An older lady sitting near them began sucking her teeth and continued to look at them in disgust. The teenagers paid her no mind until the older lady made it known she was moving her seat because of them. The teenagers continued to ignore her until the older lady got up and cursed them out.She began making a scene. “You’re nasty! You’re disgusting! Get a room!” she screamed. I looked on in silence, and kind of sympathized with the teenagers. Yes, they were young and probably shouldn’t have been making out. But they were minding their business. No one else seemed bothered by their actions. THURSDAYParenting for Dummies? On a late night around 11 o’clock on my way home from the city on the F train I saw a mother let her son run wild and act ridiculous on the train. Just when his behavior couldn’t get any worse the mother lifted her boy up, and let him hang from the bar up above. Everyone in the car was looking at her in disbelief. Her son almost kicked a lady in the head while trying to come down from hanging on the bar. The lady moved over and shot the mother a nasty look. “Is she retarded,” one passenger said out loud to her friend. By the look on my face, the mother had to know her actions weren’t appropriate. FRIDAY How Rude!On the E train an elderly lady was forced to squeeze into a tight space because one man was sitting with his legs wide open. He wouldn’t move over for her, not even an inch. She shot him an evil look and tried to make herself comfortable in what little room she had. He said, “If you nudge me again I’m going hurt you.” The lady, old enough to be his grandmother, shot back: “You’re taking up all the space and you aren’t going to hurt anyone!” “If you hit me again I will,” he replied.Everyone on the train was shocked and upset. The elderly lady moved to a seat a younger man gave up for her. When she got up for her stop at Lexington Avenue, the rude man who threatened her got up to leave and gave her a quick push then ran away. I was disgusted and upset. You never know what you’re going to see on your train ride to and from school. If you keep tab of all the interesting people and things, you will have enough to write a book.
