What to do, what to see by Alex AlemanHaving a full week of school after so many holidays was tough! Luckily, we have Monday off too. CCNY will be closed for Columbus Day, so go out or relax at home - just don't come to school. If you don't feel like staying home this weekend, but can't think of anything fun to do, here are a few ideas:
If you've been enjoying the street festivals that I've been mentioning, here's another! The Czech Street Festival is tomorrow at 12 on East 73rd Street. Enjoy Czech food, music, and theater at this all-ay event. Famous duo DVA is just one of the popular Czech acts performing at this annual gathering. Come learn about a different culture, or celebrate your own Czech roots, at this free street fair.
If you like to dance, or just like to watch, check out the Fall for For Dance Festival at the New York City Center tomorrow night. This annual festival brings together 20 dance companies specializing in everything from ballet to hula. Tickets are just $15. The festival is going on till the 13th, so if you're broke this week, you have another chance to go next Saturday.
Celebrate our country's "discovery" at the Columbus Day Parade this Monday. Head down to 5th Avenue and check out the different floats and street vendors camped outside St. Patrick's Cathedral. Whether you connect our country's founding to Christopher Columbus or the Native Americans, this annual parade is a fun way to spend your day-off.
Make the most of your three-day weekend and visit one of these events. Even if you're not a big Czech, dance, or Columbus fan, it beats staying home doing homework!
