On Friday, the soda industry filed a lawsuit against Mayor Bloomberg's proposed ban on large soft drinks. The suit claims that the Board of Health does not have the authority to create legislation, and the Supreme Court of New York should reject the size limitations before they go into affect next March. This case is still up in the air, so students should stock up on soda before restaurants start cutting back.The MTA is raising the subway fare AGAIN! Starting in March, 30-day MetroCards will cost as much as $125 (a $21 increase) and 7-day MetroCards will rise to $34 (a $5 increase). Unless you drive to school or work every day, this fare hike will put an extra hole in your wallet. Time to start packing lunch.For older women continuing their education, you might want to set your sights on a higher calling... homecoming queen! A 42-year-old student at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is running for homecoming queen. While this may seem like a shot in the dark, Heidi Hanson has gained a large following amongst the students, both young and old. Whether or not she wins, older students all over the country now have a chance to run for homecoming queen themselves. Show the younger generation that you can be anything: mother, secretary of state, and homecoming queen.
