With the fall semester well underway and exam season approaching, every student will be looking for the perfect outlet for school work related stress. Luckily, the fall season is prime time for television, with new seasons and series premiering on a daily basis. The sheer amount of options can be overwhelming in itself, and because TV is supposed to provide overworked students with a relaxing break, here are a few select shows that are worth your views.
- The Walking Dead - The eighth season of AMC’s original show is premiering on Sunday, October 22nd at 9pm. The series is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a group of survivors must navigate through the remnants of a destroyed society while fighting zombies and living villains who are even more dangerous than the undead.
- Shameless - The eighth season of Showtime’s hit show is premiering on Sunday, November 5th at 9pm. The only problem with this show is that it’s on at the same time as The Walking Dead; however, thanks to DVR and on demand, you can easily watch one right after the other. Shameless is perfect for anyone looking for a seriously hilarious drama-comedy featuring well-written dark humor.
- This Is Us - If you’re looking for a serious family comedy, but aren’t interested in the explicit content prevalent in Shameless, look no further than NBC’s insanely popular new drama This Is Us. The show has already taken home two Emmy Awards, and is being equally praised for its second season, which aired on Tuesday, September 26th at 9pm on NBC.
- Transparent - The fourth season of the Amazon Prime original series aired on Friday, September 22nd. The series follows members of a family after the divorced husband and father comes out as transgender. The show explores gender identity, self-expression, and the dynamics of an imperfect family with humor and honesty. - Brooklyn Nine-Nine - The perfect cop-comedy aired its fifth season Tuesday, September 26th, at 9pm on Fox. The characters are quirky and hilarious. The jokes are always timely and do a great job shedding light on current social issues.
- Stranger Things - By now, everyone knows this show even if they haven’t watched a single episode. It is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the horror genre, anyone who can appreciate nods to 80s pop-culture and cinema, or anyone who simply appreciates great break-out actors. The show is premiering it’s second season on Friday, October 27th on Netflix.
- Broad City - Strong, hilarious, and eccentric female leads delivering relevant comedy perfectly encapsulates Broad City. The show premiered its fourth season on Wednesday, September 14th at 10:30pm on Comedy Central.
- American Horror Story: Cult - The seventh season of the series premiered on Tuesday September 5th on FX at 10pm. American Horror Story is a great option for any horror fans that don’t have time to binge watch six seasons in preparation. The anthology series format means that you can pick any season to watch, without missing out on any important plot points.
- The Voice - A good reality show should be a part of every TV viewer’s repertoire. Good music, funny moments, and healthy competition make this show easy to look forward to, and even easier to binge if you’re not up-to-date. The thirteenth season of The Voice premiered on Monday, September 25th at 9pm on NBC.
- Mindhunter - The new crime-drama is premiering Friday, October 13th on Netflix. Mindhunter is set in the 1970s when FBI detectives were just beginning to develop the investigative technique known as criminal profiling. With the psychology of serial killers as the focal point, this show promises to be a thought-provoking take on some of the classic serial killer cases.
