Winter Storm Keeps On-Campus Residents Inside

Students at The Towers Take Advantage of Another Snow Day by Anthony ViolaOn Wednesday, yet another nor’easter dumped a foot of snow on New York. With classes cancelled, the 600 residents who live on campus in the Towers got busy figuring out what to do with their time off.Despite a dire early forecast from the National Weather Service, unlike many New Yorkers, some students didn’t get supplies in advance. “I still needed to go to the deli for food,” said sophomore Anu Shetty. “I picked up a few boxes of pasta and ran into many of the people who live at the dorms with me.”Others relied on takeout. Senior Christopher Garrido said that since he’s been in the residence hall’s main lounge, many delivery people have been coming in and out of the building. “There was a Domino’s guy here who almost shed a tear from how brutal the weather is,” said Garrido.Students also took advantage of their class cancellations. Freshman Dahkota DeBold explains that she wanted to use her day off to finish her assignments. “It gives me extra time to focus on my homework,” she says.Since the Office of Housing and Residence Life closed as well, the resident assistants had to complete double duty. Sophomore Mia Chin, the first floor resident assistant, handled all the lock outs and building-wide issues for the day. For some people, she says, “the grind never ends.”Some residents used their extra time to relax. Fortnite, a popular video game, captured the center of attention for many residents who didn’t have a reason to go outside. Garrido says that the snow storm is “the perfect excuse for Fortnite.”
