Elizabeth Warren and Her Call for America to “Join the Fight”

Elizabeth Warren is a tax law professor turned senator hoping for the Democratic Party’s nomination for presidential candidate. Warren has been a Massachusetts senator since 2012 after having taught at the Harvard Law school.

Warren’s focus during her senatorial tenure has been to curtail the control and power of banking behemoths and big business. Her most significant bill, and one of the only ones that she was able to pass is the Smart Savings Act, which, simply put, benefits the retirement accounts of federal employees. Her lack of passed bills does not correlate with a lack of influence, as she is one of the front runners for the Democratic presidential nomination, who has released severy policy proposals adopted by her peers.

Prior to joining the senate, Warren had dedicated her law career to bankruptcy law as it pertained to banking and business. Warren maintains her pro-small business stance in her presidential bid. She is in favor of higher taxes for the rich as well as for reforms that limit the influence of lobbyists and Wall Street in Washington. Warren believes lobbying is out of hand and has created a culture of corruption in the nation’s capital. She wants to ban senators and members of congress from engaging in trading and from becoming lobbyists after they leave public office. She is also stricter on campaign donation regulation, bypassing large donor dinners for personal videos of her calling people regardless of monetary gift.

While in good liberal fashion Warren does support LGBTQ+ rights, she goes against the grain for other hot topics such as the legalization of marijuana. Warren is against complete legalization and is only for legalization for medical purposes. Warren has also had her share of controversies and political hiccups, such as when her claim to be of Native American descent was reported in national media. The end result was that Warren issued an apology after it was revealed she had lied.

Warren has also proposed universal childcare and healthcare for all as well as student loan relief. However, in a field of democrats vying for the nomination, Warren receives less hype than Bernie Sanders, Beto O’Rourke, or Joe Biden- who have varying platforms.

All in all, Elizabeth Warren is a strong candidate with experience campaigning to truly drain the swamp - for lack of a better phrase.
