One of the more popular events at City College is the career fair put on for students every semester. It’s open to everyone, but freshmen and seniors are strongly encouraged to attend. By attending, there’s the chance for students to secure future positions at companies or explore options they never knew could align with their majors.
Walking through the career fair, students can create relationships, and ask professionals questions regarding the careers they're interested in. What stuck out were the abundance amount of opportunities they had for all majors, specifically those a part of STEM. Companies present were Turner Construction, Verizon, TD Bank, Epic management, Dow Jones, and Whiting-Turner, just to name a few.
For first time attenders, the career fair seemed new. Students were introduced to new corporations and were able to obtain more perspective on where they see themselves in the future. This was a chance to see how they could use their majors could be used in the long run. It was clear these corporations came prepared and were able to answer any questions the students had, specifically ones on how their companies related to their interest and major.
This experience created a gateway for students to create professional contacts and feel comfortable reaching out to corporations in the future. It was also a wake-up call, giving them a taste of where they’d be interested in working for in the future.
It’s highly recommended for juniors and seniors to check out the fair. This is one of their first chances to connect and possibly land a job before they graduate. Students are able to learn more about themselves and can do further research on these companies so they gain perspective on what they’re really into. By securing a job or internship now, they’ll strengthen their resume which can provide a range of opportunities as their career builds.
The next career fair is scheduled for March 2024. Students don’t want to miss the chance at securing a job, internship, or to just learn more about themselves and what they think they want to do in the future.
