The account @cunygse has garnered over 2,000 followers on Instagram, and the page only started posting yesterday.
A Palestine solidarity encampment has been set up at the City College of New York. The CUNY Gaza Solidarity Encampment (or GSE) account has posted clips and photos of the quad at City College showing students, faculty, and staff joining together at this pro-Palestinian protest.
With rapid posts, the GSE captured striking footage. Moments like people setting up their tents, attaching the Palestinian flag to the flagpole, and protesters pushing back against school public safety officers’ attempts to enter the encampment are shown in videos posted by the account.
Constant updates captured the increase as protesters appeared throughout the day. As they marched, some held posters while others played instruments like the drum and tambourine to draw awareness to the protest. The videos showed chanting, with one of the most popular chants being “Free, free, free, Palestine."
While raising awareness posts were uploaded to get the word out further and encourage others to join them.
According to the GSE’s mission statement, “The Gaza Solidarity Encampment is a horizontally structured action bringing together students and workers at the City University of New York (CUNY) who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people to support their right to self-determination and national liberation.”
The encampment adds to the history of significant protests at City College, embodying the influences of the 1969 protest on campus in 2024.
