Sun? Fun? Classes? Sleep?by Martha Escobar.CCNY students across campus are taking final exams and finishing up last-minute projects. Once it’s all over, students can focus on what's really important: what to do over the winter break. Some students think the break is a great time to make money. “I’m gonna be working. Nothing fancy here! Just work," says sophomore Elaine Hicks. "During the semester I can’t work as much so I take advantage of summer and winter to work more hours and build my little nest of savings."After the stress of fall semester, others prefer to head home and take this time to catch up with old friends back home, eat some home cooked meals, and maybe even have your laundry washed for you! CCNY student Hilary Powinski, says, “For me, it’s important to regroup. I’m not from New York. I always go home to Pennsylvania on breaks. I need to stay sane!”Marie Towns says she can't get out of New York fast enough. “Girl, I’m outta here! I’m going to Jamaica for a month," says Towns. " Between the cold temperatures and the snow, I’ll die of depression! In Jamaica, I’ll have sun, family, food. You cannot go wrong!”Others can't afford time off from school. “I wish I could just take the time to chill and relax, but this is my fifth year in college," says Joe, another student. "If I don’t take two winter classes, I won’t graduate this June and honestly, I had to weigh my options. I think I can sacrifice a couple of weeks in between semesters to know that come June this will all be over. To me, the bigger picture is more important. My only concern is getting burned out, but I got this!”Junior Eric Sosa he's taking a break from planning, and has decided to go with the flow. “I have my semesters planned out to a T. The courses I’m taking, the books I’m gunna need, what my work schedule will be, blah, blah, blah!" he says. " I don’t think I need to have my winter break planned. It’ll figure itself out.”
