Closed? Open? Rodents? Flies? Students speak out By Joyce LiIt’s been a crazy week for the NAC cafeteria. The health department shut it down on Monday, citing 62 violations. Then 24 hours later it was re-opened.No one is sure what’s going on, but most students aren’t surprised that the Department of Health took action. “The cafeteria is disgusting, I’m sure it’s because the workers did not follow the health code regulations,” said CCNY senior and biology major, Kevin Zhou.CCNY senior and computer engineering major, Michelle Sasson also agreed with the closing. “I laughed so hard when someone told me they were shut down. I only go to the cafeteria about five times, max out of the year, and that’s if I’m feeling lazy.”However, some students feel that the cafeteria is a convenient place to purchase food. “People like my coworker were actually upset because they were closed,” says CCNY junior, Syreeta Williams, who works in the Marshak Science building.Below are some of our students sounding off on Facebook:“Not a shock, they’ve had it several times before.”“That’s not a good sign, they probably had below a C.”“What happens when you fail the inspection three times? The Department of Health comes in with cops and shuts the whole thing down! But I bet the school is still saying we’re on the Princeton list! LOL!”Even after the cafeteria’s re-opening, some students prefer to stay away. “The food is horrible and the pizza taste like cardboard with tomato sauce,” says Williams.Zhou adds, “The only food I would ever buy from them will be packaged. Let’s keep them closed. Besides, the prices are ridiculous.”
