City Never Sleeps by Alex AlemanThe weekend is finally here, and it's four days long! All CUNY schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday for Rosh Hashanah. Make sure you do not come to school. Lots of students have come to campus on days off just to take an angry train ride back home.Did you see this week's Newsweek? The cover story asks, "Is College a Lousy Investment?" We couldn't bear to read it. You go first and shoot us the Cliff's Notes.Last week the 30th Annual Next Wave Festival began. Brought to you by the Brooklyn Academy of Music, this four month long event showcases work by emerging artists in music, art, and film. If you want something fun and educational (in a fun way!) to do this weekend, you should check it out.
Any CCNY jazz lovers? You should look into the Third Annual Coca-Cola Generations In Jazz Festival. This festival, presented by Jazz at Lincoln Center, showcases music by popular jazz musicians, both old and new. If you want to spend your weekend relaxing and listening to great music, go bebop and boogie-woogie with other NYC jazz fans.
If you want to celebrate the end of the week by stuffing your face with delicious Italian food, you should go to the 86th Annual Feast of San Gennaro. This 11-day festival happens every year in Manhattan's Little Italy. Though it started as an annual celebration of faith, the Feast of San Gennaro has become one of the most festive events NYC has to offer. Grab a connoli and enjoy the music!
Who loves bees? Nobody! But if you like honey, you should check out the New York City Honey Festival. This new festival is celebrating its second year on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk. Vendors in bee-inspired costumes will be handing out a variety of tasty, honey-covered treats. Visit the boardwalk and let your sweet tooth take over!
After the long week I've had, this four day weekend couldn't have come at a better time. I know what I'll be doing all weekend. How about you?
